Evidence based care to get you on the path to better mental health
I am Dr. Sarah McKenna - Clinical Psychologist
I am a clinical psychologist with several years of experience working with young people and their families in a range of community settings. I also have a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the Australian National University and am a Research Fellow at the University of Sydney.
Throughout my career I have worked in many different settings such as schools, community services, and private practice. This means that I have been able to work with lots of different people from all walks of life and to help with a wide spectrum of mental health problems.
Most of my clinical and academic work has focused on helping young people (anyone under 30) and their families to manage anxious and depressive disorders, but I enjoy working with people of all ages.
I help you to return to a normal life
I use evidence-based assessments to understand young people’s mental health problems, and choose treatments that will help them get back to their best version of themselves.
I think these questions are important when I am planning treatments for young people

Psychology to help you
Personalised care
Care should be personalised to you! That means we talk about your values, your interests and your needs, not just what I think is important.
Everyone deserves help
I think that good mental health care should be affordable and accessible to everyone, that’s why I offer online services and only charge a small gap fee.
Not just mental health
You are more likely to recover when all of your needs are being taken care of, not just your mental health, that’s why I take time to communicate with GP’s, psychiatrists, teachers, and anyone else who is involved in helping you.
Evidence based
I think that evidence-based practice is important – that means I only use interventions that have been trialled with people who have similar problems to you and have been shown to help.
What therapeutic approaches do I use?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Trauma-focused CBT
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)
Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)
